Ethical considerations in scholarly publishing

Ethics in article publication

Authors must adhere to all ethical principles governing publication. The ethical guidelines and code of conduct for producing scholarly works are well-defined, and any violation may result in legal action, both domestically and internationally. By submitting an article, authors implicitly agree to abide by these principles. All individuals involved in the publication process, including the editor-in-chief, editorial board members, managing editor, copyeditor, and publisher, must acknowledge and comply with the journal's ethical guidelines. The Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) provides comprehensive guidelinesfor authors and publication stakeholders.

  • Submitted articles must be within the journal's scope and represent original research conducted by the author(s).
  • Furthermore, the article or any part thereof must not be concurrently under review or published in any other journal, domestic or international. Abstracts presented at conferences, symposia, or seminars, whether published or not, may be submitted as full-length articles.
  • The journal reserves the right to accept or reject, edit, condense, or revise submitted articles.
  • Any revisions or condensations will be made in consultation with the authors. The authors are responsible for the accuracy of the content of their articles.
  • The corresponding author is responsible for all correspondence, and the publication of an article does not imply endorsement of its contents.
  • Original copies of rejected or withdrawn articles will be discarded from the journal's archives after six months, and the journal will assume no responsibility for them.
  • If the work of others is used, the appropriate source must be cited with complete bibliographic information.
  • Submitted articles must not have been previously published elsewhere. Therefore, completion of the author's declaration form, stating that the article has not been submitted to any other journal for publication or review, is mandatory upon submission.
  • Submitted manuscripts will be held in trust by the journal office until publication.

Publication and Printing Decisions

Copyright Compliance:

The journal strictly adheres to copyright laws and ensures that the rights of all authors are protected during the publication process.

Fair Decision-Making:

Decisions regarding articles are made at every stage without bias based on the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnicity, nationality, or political philosophy.

Confidentiality of Information:

Personal information pertaining to article authors is strictly confidential and protected at all times. This information is accessible only to those directly involved in the publication process, including the editor-in-chief, editorial board members, managing editor, and other active parties (excluding the corresponding author), such as reviewers, consultants, copyeditors, and the publisher.

Authors' Responsibilities

  • Submission of Scholarly and Standardized Articles: Authors must prepare their articles in a scholarly and coherent manner, adhering to the journal's standards. Research methodologies should be described accurately and objectively, and data should be reported correctly. Proper citations must be provided to acknowledge the work of others. Authors should avoid expressing sensitive, unethical, subjective, or personal opinions, as well as presenting false or misleading information. They should also refrain from plagiarizing the work of others without proper attribution.
  • Provision of Raw Data: Authors may be requested to provide raw data, interview transcripts, questionnaires, or other research tools upon request. Public access to this data (in accordance with ALPSP-STM guidelines) can contribute to the reproducibility and transparency of research.
  • Originality of Submitted Work: Submitted articles must represent the original work of the authors. Any use of the research of others must be properly cited.
  • No Simultaneous Submissions: Authors must not submit the same article to multiple journals simultaneously, nor should they submit articles that have already been published or accepted for publication elsewhere.
  • Appropriate Citations: Citations must include all books, journals, databases, and other research sources used.
  • Author Contributions and Accuracy: The primary author should be the individual who made the most significant contributions to the research, writing, and preparation of the article. All co-authors should have made substantial contributions and agree to the submission of the article. The primary author is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of all author names and affiliations.
  •  Any potential risks to humans or other organisms resulting from the research must be clearly stated in the article.

Declaration of Errors

If an author becomes aware of any errors or inaccuracies in their published article, they must promptly notify the journal and take appropriate corrective action, which may include issuing a correction or retracting the article.

Certification of Original Work and Submission

By submitting an article, authors certify that:

  • The work is original and has not been previously published elsewhere, except for portions included in theses or as abstracts presented at academic conferences.
  • All co-authors have agreed to the publication and their listed authorship.
  • The institution, funding agency, or research facility involved in the research has granted permission for publication.
  • The author will not submit the same or substantially similar work to another journal during the review process or after acceptance.

Copyright and Usage Rights Upon acceptance of an article, authors will be required to sign a copyright transfer agreement. This agreement outlines the terms of publication, including copyright ownership. By signing this agreement, authors grant the journal the right to publish and distribute their work.
